a) I get a 1U cooler for socket A/370. It DOESN’T FIT on the motherboard cause of some stupid transistor.
b) I want to put an Athlon 1GHz in my workstation (currently 800 MHz Athlon). Turns out the motherboard only supports 200MHz FSB and the CPU is 7.5×266 instead of 10×200.
Either I run it at 750 which would be stupid, or I put the 800 back…
c) I wanted to put the above Athlon in my server here (currently 1GHz Duron). That works, motherboard supports 266 FSB… I power it up again… doesn’t boot anymore… 1 SCSI disk failed. Luckily it only contained /usr/src/local, /tmp and /var/log … but still, sucky BS I have to go through to get it all fixed.
d) I hurt myself several times while doing the hardware changes.. yay.
